Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick (PLEIS-NB) is excited to announce the formation of new Legal Content Committees to support its ongoing work in providing accessible, accurate, and up-to-date legal information to the public. The goal is to create two separate committees—one in each official language—to ensure that New Brunswick residents have access to vital legal resources in both English and French.

PLEIS-NB is currently focused on establishing the French-language Legal Content Committee and is inviting French-speaking lawyers to express interest in joining the committee, which will play an essential role in shaping the organization’s legal content.

Purpose of the Legal Content Committees

The PLEIS-NB Legal Content Committees aim to ensure that the organization’s legal resources reflect the latest legal developments and are written in clear, accessible English and French language. Committee members will provide input on existing legal content and contribute to ongoing and future PLEIS-NB projects.

Membership Commitment

The French-language Legal Content Committee should be experienced lawyers who are not only knowledgeable in their areas of expertise, but also passionate about improving access to legal information in New Brunswick. The group will meet annually for one hour, with additional communication via email to provide updates on the law or to answer brief legal questions that arise throughout the year.

Time Commitment: There will be a one-hour virtual meeting held once a year. The first meeting will take place in late January 2025. Committee members are asked to contribute approximately 6-8 hours per year. This includes attending the annual meeting, providing legal updates, answering brief questions, and assisting with outreach.

How to Get Involved

PLEIS-NB is looking for French-speaking lawyers who would be available to attend the committee’s first meeting in January 2025. If you are interested in contributing your expertise to this important initiative, please send a brief expression of interest along with your professional background and areas of practice, to plesinb@web.ca November 22, 2024.
