Family Law Services in New Brunswick

The following services are available around the province. At this time, Family Law Information Centres (FLIC) are only available for parties who live in the judicial districts of Saint John and Moncton.

This is a subsidy program to off-set the costs to parents when the court orders a professional evaluation in a contested decision-making responsibility and/ or parenting time case. It is operated by the Department of Justice and Public Safety. Eligibility for full or partial assistance depends on income.

A province wide service available to people who live outside of a region with a FLIC. It is provided by the Department of Justice and Public Safety in collaboration with the NB Legal Aid Services Commission (NBLASC). Lawyers provide free general legal information for up to two hours on family law matters. They can explain what to expect from the court process and help you understand court forms.

This service is available in the judicial district of Moncton which includes the Counties of Albert, Westmorland and Kent. It is an initiative of the Department of Justice and Public Safety. The FLIC offers information and resources to the general public about various family law issues, referrals to other services and appointments to see the family advice lawyer or the triage family advice lawyer.

A toll-free line operated by PLEIS-NB. Operator can provide general information on family law matters and explain family law forms and court procedures.

This is a service of the New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission. It helps low income individuals deal with certain family law matters. Priority is given to screening those cases that are urgent or can directly benefit children. Means testing is required to determine eligibility for covered services.

Family mediators can help people settle issues about parenting, separation, and divorce. There is a fee for mediation to which both parties usually contribute. You may want to choose someone who has professional accreditations, for example, with Family Mediation Canada, the Law Society of New Brunswick, or the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers.

The Office of Support Enforcement (OSE) is a program of the Department of Justice and Public Safety responsible for the collection of child and spousal support. The OSE will take appropriate action to monitor support files and to take appropriate action if payments fall into default.

A free self-guided online program made up of three parts which focuses on helping qualifying parents help their children. Presented by the Department of Justice and Public Safety. The program uses quizzes and qualifying participants will receive a certificate of completion.
